Costumes

Here are pictures of most of the costumes I have made during my time as a member of the Manitoba Living History Society.  I have made more costumes for others, I just don't seem to have pictures of them.  It may not look like I have accomplished much over the last two and a half years, but it's not just the costumes that need work.  There is also the task acquiring the accessories and learning the skills.  I've given myself an even greater challenge because I portray two different styles, Métis and European; each of which have their own unique set of accessories, skills and fabric requirements.

I hope to expand my regency collection over the next year, as well as some accessories for my Métis costume I have been putting off.  For now, here is my collection of costumes, all of which I have made.

My first strap dress with sleeves and leggings.  I still use the same leggings with my current strap dress.

My first strap dress.  K is next to me wearing the Selkirk Settler outfit I made for her.

My deer skin bag with some beading I did myself.

A pair of winter moccasins given to me.  I repaired the sole on the left hand one.

My second strap dress with sleeves.  This dress has more detail than my first.  I have also found copper arm bands by this time as well as a belt.  The bands are decorative and help to hold the sleeves up.

I am working on making a moccasin here.  This is a more traditional summer pair.  I was making them for Big D but they are too small, so they will go to JM instead.

My lower class Selkirk Settler outfit.  I wore this one quite a bit at Mississinewa this past year because it is extremely comfy!

The dresses I made for the two of us. This was for the Queen's visit during the summer of 2010.

JM and I in our Sunday best at St John's Cathedral.  This was for Lord Selkirk's visit to commemorate the bicentennial of the Selkirk Settlers arriving in what is now Manitoba.

My nearly finished spencer jacket.  The cuffs have been trimmed with fur. I plan on doing the collar as well.
